Phases of Building a High Performance Learning Culture

Building a high performance learning culture requires movement, step-by-step, through several phases of organizational focus and action, to move your school across several ascending levels of cultural maturity.

<

PhasesForDevelopingHighPerfCulture(Kuppler,2013)<

Actions begin by building a foundation, enabling an organization to begin movement from a Reactive (level 1) to a Functional (level 2) culture.

<

Subsequent phases involves expanding the approach to move your school from a Functional to a Collaborative (level 3) culture.

<

Finally, Go Deep is about moving from a Collaborative to a High Performance (level 4) culture.

<

Focus on Moving One Level at a Time

<

The goal is to help your organization move along one level at a time so work progresses in logical phases.

<

It’s not effective to work on all improvement targets at the same time.

<

The foundation needs to be in place to support the higher order operating drivers that will be [addressed] in Phases 2 and 3.

<

Some organizations may already have systems in place for some of these higher level operating drivers, but still struggle due to issues with their foundation.

<

Phases 2 and 3 are all about sustainability, but they will not have the intended impact without a strong foundation.

<

An obvious example is the transition from Build the Foundation to Expand the Approach.

<

Expand the Approach is all about growing collaboration.

<

This collaboration will be chaos if you haven’t clarified expectations and priorities first and engaged the organization to build momentum on the top one to three priorities, the focus of Build the Foundation.
