Building upon America’s Populist Strengths

Participation in Building upon America’s Populist Strengths, for the Good of Our Nation and Also to the Benefit of Our World.

~ by Norman Jentner 06-14-17

My practical dreams for current constructive action in our sometimes tumultuous communities keep getting sharper and brighter.

<

I am resurrecting, in newly polished form, my also newly coined “Limiting Interpersonal Beliefs Disappearing Act.”

<

I’d like to expand today my own and interested others’ empowerment of alarmed, frustrated, and skeptical people, from all walks of life, who are interested and willing — with support — to reach beyond their own (often unconscious) limiting interpersonal assumptions and beliefs.

<

<

Why?

<

I’d like to enable people from all walks of life to experience and thereby learn reliable means of respectfully enhancing mutually respectful understanding among people, including those uncomfortably different from oneself (intellectually, emotionally, and behaviorally) — with safety and renewed or enhanced appreciation.

<

Again, why?

<

To empower people’s safe discovery of directly and indirectly cooperative actions each party might take, if and when ready, toward mutually respected interests, even if differently prioritized among parties, and even if only indirectly involved with each other in those actions.

<

I envision this as both interesting and fun — plus truly empowering for all involved.

<

<

This is about participating in building upon America’s populist strengths, for the good of the United States of America and to the benefit also of our world.

<

My focus, backed by experience, will represent my current contribution.

<

I am open to others’ parallel ideas, as well.

<

I want to support other people’s successfully constructive parallel actions, too.

<

My Current Plan

<

My current plan is to re-introduce to my community, in multiple settings, a particular type of safe and experientially informative “culture-and-people-friendly island.”  It is an exercise I developed some twenty years ago and have provided with success to hundreds of adults.

<

This is for participants’ constructive exploration, with respect, of both their similarities and differences of expectations of each other in that particular social setting.

<

We accomplish this by temporarily suspending “normal” social norms and replacing them with a few simple, safe, yet enlightening ground-rules, to voluntarily integrate as relevant by each participant.

<

I (Norman) have many times offered this group exercise to mostly adult males and with great success.

<

I am curious: will this work equally well with women? In mixed gender groups? In highly multi-cultural settings?

I want to find out.

<

Relevant to:

<

  • Public and private schools, for diversity, race relations, and learning culture development

<

  • Private companies in changing environments who want to to increase their own agility and performance in the marketplace

<

  • Not-for-profits who want to enhance their own creativity, relevance, and effectiveness of services delivery

<

  • Faith-based organizations and their out-reach programs

<

  • Inter-faith gatherings

<

  • Criminal justice systems, policing, and the communities they serve

<

This is about building on America’s populist strengths.

Limiting Interpersonal Beliefs Disappearing Act

<

A 90-minute experiential group exercise (10 < # of participants < 20).

<

Would you like to join me, directly or indirectly, in this, my aspiration and upcoming effort — to make it even better?

<

I have some beginning ideas and plans.

<

I have experience doing this sort of work.

<

I am open to ideas in addition to mine.

<

I welcome your comments, expression of interest, or support.

<

You are also welcome to directly contact me.

<

Stay tuned to learn more.

<

Quite sincerely,

<
